OCTAVE launches Parents’ Association

Nagpur, 27th November, 2010: Recognizing the changing role of parents in their children’s education and their potential to contribute in their children’s career, OCTAVE launched an innovative yet effective OCTAVE Parents Association. All parents of the current 2010-12 batch were very enthusiastic about the idea as a result of which they gathered at OCTAVE campus on 27th November 2010.

According to research it has been found that Parents contribute to student’s success by: (a) Understanding the student experience, (b) knowing campus resources, (c) supporting college’s goal for student learning outcomes, and (d) developing affinity for the college. If parents set education as the highest priority at home, those students are likely to do better than others in their academics as well as careers. “Parents are the first customers of OCTAVE and we need to give them the due attention and respect. In addition, we believe that most of the OCTAVIANs will benefit from the increased support at home during these two years at OCTAVE as they increase their capacity many fold.” said Chandra Bhople, Co-founder of OCTAVE and the main contact for OCTAVIAN parents.

During 3 hour session with OCTAVE directors, OCTAVIAN parents discussed areas of concerns as well gave suggestions on how OCTAVE could keep them updated about new developments at OCTAVE and progress by their wards. “We really appreciate OCTAVE founders for bringing high quality management education to Nagpur. Otherwise my son was looking at going to Pune but why go to Pune when you can get the best education in Nagpur itself” said Mrs. Neha Bhandarkar.

An active Parents Association promotes networking among parents and also gives the members an opportunity to exchange their ideas and also to cross check the information they receive from their wards. Some of the responsibilities of the parents may include: (i) Knowing what activities are taking place on campus, (ii) encourage students to be on the campus to attend various programs and classes, and (iii) encourage involvement in clubs and organizations. Parents need to understand that the students will be changing and they should accept the same. “With every OCTAVIAN we get two parents so in that sense OCTAVE Parents Association will be twice that of OCTAVIAN Alumni Association. That’s a big group of well wishers for OCTAVE and we don’t want to miss the opportunity.” said Zulfiquar Kamal, Co-founder and director of Finance at OCTAVE.
