Flag Hoisting at OCTAVE Campus

OCTAVE Business School, founded by alumni of IIMs, ISB, SPJain and BITS-Pilani, has completed its 1st phase of campus building and its opening was marked by flag hoisting function organized at the college on 15th August. The building has been completed at a very fast pace in just a time frame of 3 months. The campus is built in Rui which is hardly 3 kms from Sun & Sand Hotel off Wardha Road. 

BITS Alumni & OCTAVE founders at Flag Hoisting Ceremony at OCTAVE Campus. “OCTAVE’s idea was floated in BITS Alumni meet in Nov 2009 and today in such a short time we have completed the 1st phase of college building”, informed Mr. Akbar Kamal, Director Infrastructure of OCTAVE. The main feature of the building is the studio style class room which is 1400 sq ft and fully AC equipped with high end audio visual equipments like wi-fi projectors and plasma screens.

OCTAVE has successfully admitted a batch of 30 students on only merit basis for its PGP-MBA 2010-12 Program. The batch has diverse profile with students from Engineering, Science, Commerce and Management backgrounds. There are students who have come all the way to Nagpur to join OCTAVE from Bangalore, Pune and places in CG & MP. In fact it is highly encouraging to see students from Bangalore and Pune coming to Nagpur for MBA studies.

OCTAVE participates in PUNE MBA Fair

OCTAVE participated in the two day B-School Fair conducted at Pune by TIME. The OCTAVE stall was uniquely positioned in the fair and received humongous response from students. Most of the students felt that OCTAVE took a bold and different approach towards delivering quality management education. The stall was also visited by senior people from education industry and they lauded the efforts of OCTAVE team towards establishing a B-School offering curriculum in tune with the industry. 

OCTAVE founders also conducted mock Personal Interviews for TIME students. In two days, OCTAVE received 600+ student information forms indicating their willingness to participate in future OCTAVE events in Pune.

OCTAVE to offer Summer Placements in USA and Canada

OCTAVE has tied up with Sierra Atlantic (USA), Opalsoft (USA) and Karma Candy (Canada) and will offer foreign internships to its first batch of students starting in July 2010. With this OCTAVE becomes the first B-School in India to offer foreign summer placements right from its first year of operations.

OCTAVE Business School, Nagpur, Wellingker Mumbai and ISB Hyderabad were participants at the T.I.M.E. B School Fair held at Agrasen Bhavan, Nagpur on February 26th and 27th. OCTAVE had the most strategic booth at the Fair and was visited by about 500 MBA aspirants from Nagpur region. About 200 of the visitors signed for the following weekend courses being conducted during April, 2010 by OCTAVE.

Communication skills, Time management, Negotiation skills, Information skills, Problem solving, Decision making, Leadership skills, Project Management. These courses are available during the weekends of April 10, 11, April 17, 18 and April 24, 25.

During Q&A session by OCTAVE, many attendees asked questions regarding placements, faculty, and parameters to choose an MBA school to the OCTAVE founders. OCTAVE came out as the clear winner in terms of bringing industry oriented MBA education to Nagpur and addressing key questions such as what a good quality management education ought to be. The HR Managers conference planned by OCTAVE in October 2010 assured further that the placements for OCTAVE students will be very strong. As for faculty, OCTAVE was the only B school offering 3-tier teaching resources for each subject. The 1-week industry training in Singapore, Taiwan or China accompanied by OCTAVE directors was considered as a big plus. Students also appreciated the fact that OCTAVE directors understand the unique needs of Generation Y i.e. students born after 1980.

Many IIMA Grads Want To Hire This Year

A biz school and a company that concentrates on energy-efficient designs are just some of the entrepreneurial ideas from the PGP 2008-10 batch of the Indian Institute of Management (IIMA).

Many graduates from the institute this year plan to take the entrepreneurial road instead of getting a lucrative job at various MNCs. What more, some plan to balance both their corporate careers and desire to be an entrepreneur. Take the case of Piyush Maskey, a PGP 2008-10 batch student who along with his friends plan to set up his own business school in Nagpur. Maskey said it was the lack of good B-schools near his hometown that gave him the idea of setting up one such school which will be at par with the best B-schools of the country. Maskey and his seven other friends (whom he had studied with at BITS Pilani ) have decided to set up 'Octave Business School' which will begin classes from the academic year 2010.

"With the knowledge and experience of some of the best institutes we have studied in, including BITS Pilani, IIMA, IMB, ISB and SP Jain, we thought why can't we replicate and start a new institute in Nagpur. It is our way of giving back to the society," said Maskey.

Another PGP student, Dhruv Jain has already started a company called 'GreenTree Building Energy Pvt Ltd' with his friend Anurag Bajpai from IIT Roorkee. The venture aims to provide various services related to the design of energy efficient commercial and residential buildings. Jain said, "We aim at delivering turnkey design solutions for buildings in a way that integrates all aspects of building design."

He said they were also involved in the development of policy level software to measure energy efficiency of buildings and benchmarking tools in association with the (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) BEE and USAID Eco3. While Maskey and Jain plan to run their ventures apart from holding a regular corporate job, others have completely opted out of the placement process to start their own business.

Nagpur gets its first International Standard Business School

Chandra Bhople to address VIA on Feb 13

Marketing Forum of Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) has organised a talk cum presentation of Chandra Bhople, an alumnus of BITS Pilani and co-founder of OCTAVE Business School, Nagpur on 'Using Sales and Marketing Concepts for Small Businesses; on Saturday February 13th at 5.45 pm at VIA hall, Udyog Bhavan, Civil Lines.

Chandra Bhople talk and workshop will focus on using professional sales and marketing concepts for small and medium businesses in the present competitive scenario. 

The topics will include finding new customers, pricing your products, positioning your company etc. Emphasis will be on real life application for faster results.
